Facial blemishes are caused by an excessive secretion of oils (sebum) from the sebaceous gland, especially during the teen years. This sebum combines with dead skin cells and becomes impacted in the pores, causing white heads, black heads, and, if a bacteria called Proprionibacterium Acnes becomes trapped in the pore, a pimple forms. All acne treatment and prevention products, whether prescription or over the counter, are designed to dissolve the sebum plug and kill the bacteria.
The addition of cinnamon oil, tea tree oil, honey (a natural antibiotic) and a 100-micron medical grade aluminum oxide dermabrasion crystal to our Indulgence Coconut Hand & Body Lotion has proven to be an effective acne treatment and prevention solution. Cleanser is used as follows:
- While in the shower, allow the warm water to flow over the face for about 10 seconds. This will expand the pores and soften the sebum.
- Smooth a small amount (about the size of a quarter) of the Cleanser over the surface of the skin for about 15 seconds – GENTLE, GENTLE, GENTLE!!! The dermabrasion crystals will remove the dead skin cells, allowing the oils to penetrate into the pores and dissolve the sebum. Massaging the solution into the skin can cause damage to the fragile and inflamed tissue surrounding the eruptions, which can lead to scarring.
- Allow the solution to remain on the skin for another 10 - 25 seconds, then rinse thoroughly with warm water for 15 seconds. Make sure to rinse all the Cleanser off the face – it should stop stinging completely.
- Pat the skin dry – do not rub vigorously with a towel – again, gentle treatment of the inflamed skin will promote healing without scarring.
The slight acidity in our solution causes an intense stinging sensation for the time it is on the skin, as well as a flushing of the skin for approximately 10 minutes after use. Both of these results are normal and lessen as the complexion improves.
There is no cure for acne! All acne products, either prescription or over the counter, treat existing acne and prevent future lesions. It can take up to 2 weeks to experience a visible result. The user may notice an initial increase in outbreaks in the first 7 – 10 days – again, a normal result as the impurities are being drawn out of the skin. Patience is the key to a better complexion.
